Long Beach, California
In the mid-1990s, WolfBrown developed a comprehensive community plan and public art plan for Long Beach, California. While much was accomplished after the plan was completed, many goals and strategies were not implemented as a result of difficult economic conditions and personnel changes at the responsible agency. The Arts Council for Long Beach, working with the City’s Bureau of Economic Development and Cultural Affairs, decided to update the plan and contracted with WolfBrown to oversee and serve as an on-site advisor to the process. Through a series of interviews, focused group meetings, and a facilitated convening of over 125 people on a Saturday morning, the consultant developed a framework for an updated plan. The framework articulated the vision, values, and guiding principals of the plan, along with goals and suggested strategies for consideration. A second phase of the project, spearheaded by the Arts Council, is currently under way.
