Charles E. Culpeper Foundation
Before recasting policies that govern its giving, the Charles E. Culpeper Foundation (now the Culpeper Endowment of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund) engaged consultants from WolfBrown to review its current arts and culture program and suggest how it could be strengthened. The consultants took a phased approach to research and evaluation that would allow for increasing focus and detail as the work progressed. They reviewed background materials and interviewed trustees; then they questioned grantees (including some site visits), conducting a written survey of those whose grants had been deemed particularly pertinent. Finally, in order to provide context, the consultants also gathered information on the arts and culture grantmaking of a selected group of comparable foundations. The final report suggested refinements to clarify the program’s intentions and further enhance its effectiveness and the client implemented the recommendations.
