City of Eugene, Oregon
The City of Eugene is Oregon’s second largest city with a long and vibrant history of engagement with arts and culture. It is the home of author and renowned counter-culture figure, Ken Kesey, as well as the inspiring Hult Center for the Performing Arts and an eclectic array of professional and avocational artists in all disciplines. The City contracted with WolfBrown to undertake a year-long comprehensive “cultural policy review.” The project engaged over 3,000 residents through a web-based survey on cultural participation, a series of “dialogue sessions” on key issues attended by over 300 people, facilities inventories, and other research. The resulting plan, reviewed and vetted by a special “Mayor’s Committee,” was unanimously accepted by the City Council to applause from Council members and the over 50 observers.
