Philadelphia Cultural Engagement Index
WolfBrown worked with the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance to develop a holistic, longitudinal measurement system of cultural engagement in Greater Philadelphia called the Cultural Engagement Index. The purpose of the Index is to stimulate innovation, track engagement over time, inform cultural policy, and reinforce culture as a recognized and valued component of a region’s quality of life. The methodology involved developing a representative sample of all adults 18+ in Greater Philadelphia, which included 202 ZIP codes within a 20-mile radius of downtown Philadelphia. Data was collected using both online and hard copy distribution of the survey and over 2,900 completed surveys were obtained.
The index, much like the Consumer Price Index or Consumer Confidence Index, will be benchmarked this first year at 100 using scored, weighted, and aggregated responses from the survey. The CEI is one of several research projects being conducted by the Cultural Alliance, and is part of Engage 2020, an initiative focused on doubling cultural engagement in Greater Philadelphia by 2020.
