The Arts Services Coalition (ASC) is an informal association of fifteen organizations that provide professional services to artists and arts organizations.  The Executive Directors of the member organizations have been meeting for over five years to share information and explore options for joint initiatives and other potential efficiencies.  After a Boston Foundation report indicated the importance of arts service organizations and the need to streamline operations, ASC contracted with WolfBrown to undertake research to assess options for consolidation through mergers, joint offices and/or programs, and other initiatives.  The nine-month consultancy included a survey of ASC constituents, a review of organizations’ operations and financial reports, and a review of national models.  The consultants found a number of possible options for consolidation, ranging from simply sharing office space to “mini-mergers” of two or more organizations with related missions to the creation of a single, centralized organization, considered the least likely option.
