In the fall of 2001, the Florida West Coast Symphony requested an assessment of its plans to build a new arts education center and to make recommendations concerning appropriate directions. The project offers an interesting example of an organization seeking a “second opinion,” especially in light of events that had occurred subsequent to the decision to build the center. A WolfBrown consultant studied background material and subsequently went on site, reviewing plans, analyzing organizational needs, interviewing key stakeholders, and reviewing major developments in the city of Sarasota, Florida, the Symphony’s home. The final report counseled against proceeding with the original plan and undertaking specific targeted analyses before a new plan was prepared.
