The Hunterdon Museum of Art is a small contemporary art museum housed in a 1858 historic mill in Clinton, New Jersey. In the summer of 2003, the museum invited WolfBrown to design a program of market research to assist the museum in identifying adult education and other program opportunities. First, a mail survey was administered to a cross-section of museum members, visitors and class participants. Then, teams of board and staff members conducted individual depth interviews with a small number of museum constituents. Using a protocol developed by the consultant, the interviews probed attitudes about the museum and contemporary art in general. At the conclusion of the project, workshops with staff and board members were held to reflect on the important themes and ideas arising from the research, and to brainstorm program opportunities and refinements. The research was made possible through a grant from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.

The Hunterdon Museum of Art offers exhibitions and educational programs for people of all ages. The museum, a landmark regional art center since 1952, is housed in a 19th century stone grist mill which is on the National Register of Historic Places. In this historic setting, the museum presents exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, featuring established as well as emerging artists.

The museum also offers children’s and adult art classes, workshops, lectures, docent-led gallery tours, and other interpretive experiences. The museum shop carries a wide variety of fine crafts, including jewelry and children’s toys and games.
