Maine Arts Commission
Like many state arts agencies around the country, the Maine Arts Commission found itself in altered financial circumstances in the mid-1990’s following major shifts in federal funding of the arts. Realizing it would have to restructure itself, the Commission turned to consultants from WolfBrown to guide both its assessment of the situation and its development of plans to address it both in the present and in the future. The consultants facilitated retreats for the board and staff, and taking ideas that surfaced in the meetings, drafted a strategic plan that would transform the agency from a rather passive regranting agency into a pro-active, initiative-driven organization. Then they helped present the plan to the public for comment before drafting a final document for Commission approval.
