Consultants from WolfBrown were hired to conduct a development audit based on internal meetings with all development staff, key administrative staff, selected research staff, members of the board of Trustees and the Board of Corporators, and several major donors. The final report made specific recommendations for short, mid, and long-term strategies for increasing fund raising, included job descriptions for each staff position recommended for a new development operation, and detailed the annual fund-raising budget. The plan found that increasing the organization’s ability to secure private funding necessitated attention to many areas, including an overhaul of the development operation, a new staffing structure, a diminished reliance on special gifts, and an increased focus on major gifts.
