Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library
This nationally recognized museum of the decorative arts situated on 1,000 acres is one of the major attractions in the Brandywine Valley in Delaware. Founded by Henry F. du Pont, Winterthur attracts about 150,000 regular attendance from tourists, local residents, and school children each year. WolfBrown has been hired to conduct market research and make specific recommendations on how Winterthur can significantly increase visitorship with a special focus on how the Garden can attract new visitors and impact repeat visitorship. Research methodology includes focus groups, a telephone survey to a qualified sample of area residents who have not visited Winterthur, a self-administered survey to Garden visitors, and a telephone follow up survey to a sample of the respondents to the Garden visitors’ survey. Based on the research data, WolfBrown developed extensive recommendations on Garden programming; visitor services; exhibitions; promotion & advertising activities; and continuing research delivered to Winterthur in September, 1998. WolfBrown was subsequently hired to conduct a market research project focussed on two other key elements of the organization — its 175 period rooms and galleries of permanent and changing exhibitions.
