Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers
The Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers is a national organization that serves and represents geographically-based associations of institutional grant makers around the country. The Forum was facing some key issues about mission and priorities – defining its role in a changing philanthropic environment, determining how it could both serve the needs of members and exert national leadership, and ensuring that the proper structures and support were in place to support The Forum’s work. The Forum scheduled a day-long “visioning” session as part of its annual conference, and retained WolfBrown to prepare the session, facilitate it, and draw its results together in a planning document. WolfBrown used both telephone interviews and an e-mail interview process to gather information from key Forum constituents, developed a discussion memorandum and agenda, and then facilitated a lively session of the membership. The result was a planning framework that articulated the organization’s purpose, described the environment and the Forum’s response to it, and laid out a series of strategic priorities. The Forum has used this document successfully to shape staff-level planning and to guide the work of the Forum board.
